"Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit." - Acts of the Apostles 8:14-15
We often say that Catholics are “sealed” with the Holy Spirit at Confirmation, because the sacrament deepens and strengthens the baptismal gift of the Holy Spirit. Any baptized person who freely asks, receives the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord), as well as the strength to be witness to God’s love and might in word and deed. This is typically administered by a bishop of the Church.
Preparation for Confirmation typically happens in eighth grade as part of Incarnate Word School’s curriculum, the Parish School of Religion (for students who attend public school) or special sessions in the spring semester (for students who attend private Catholic schools unattached to a parish, such as Priory, Chaminade, Visitation, and Villa Duchesne. This last group of students must complete one additional document in order to register. Please see the document labeled “For NON-IW Catholic Schools” below).
